this october: rethink breast cancer

At The Pink Ribbon Place, Riverside’s only breast cancer resource center, it’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month every month.

The center, which is a program of Riverside Community Health Foundation, holds numerous breast cancer educational classes and support groups each month and takes its message into the community, setting up at various events and speaking to different community groups and organizations. In addition, the center serves as an American Cancer Society Wig Bank (anyone with cancer is eligible to use this service) and a breast prosthesis bank. All of The Pink Ribbon Place’s services are no-cost.

“One of our primary goals is to make sure there is message about early detection and awareness of the disease 12 months of the year in our community,” said Anna Holbrook, Program Development Coordinator for The Pink Ribbon Place.

Over the past year, the center has been focusing on closing gaps in access to care for those impacted by breast cancer as well. In July, The Pink Ribbon Place partnered with Parkview Community Hospital Medical Center and Borrego Health to begin a free diagnostic program for low-income men and women under 40 with breast health concerns.

And, this October, the center is making sure that everyone is getting the message – including young women and men. Although their rates of getting the disease are lower, both women under 40 and men have higher mortality rates when diagnosed with breast cancer than older women.

“This October we are asking people to rethink breast cancer,” said Holbrook. “It’s not just a women’s disease or a disease that impacts those over 50. The youngest person to come through our diagnostic program was just 15. Anyone can be diagnosed with breast cancer. It touches all our lives.”

  1. It is a stretchable fabric which places some amount of pressure on the area, making your chest look flat. Some also use the double t-shirt technique to cover up the bulge. Others believe that wearing printed shirts can also mask the problem. https://gynecomastiapro.com
